Children of the two primary schools in Nieuw-Weerdinge attend every year the so called "Kleve-project". This year the subject was :Without education no future.
The children had lessons about children from other cultures, amongst them about the children of Kashi Mandir School in India.

The project was finalised on Friday July 8 with a sponsor swim-action in the local swimmingpool. The result: an amount of € 1500 for the school. From this amount bicycles will be bought for children living far away from the school.
Children and sponsors in Nieuw-Weerdinge: thank you!

Financial justification 2011

Published: 09-02-2011 by Rutger.

Since we started the workshop Kashi Mandir and the continuation of our activities in the Kashi Mandir Foundation we donated the school 15 times an amount of € 250 (for educational equipment, playing equipment, schooluniforms, communication etc.). And we invested in a waterwell and -pump, a computer and in the first three new own class rooms. Our private donors and actions made this possible.

The number of children visiting the school has increased with till 225 children , children who would not had any school education otherwise. Local childrens labour has been diminished considerably. These children get a chance because of your gift!

In 2011 our gainings have been far more than in 2010, so we supported the school directly and we could make a reservation for future constructing and improving the quality of teaching.

For 2011-2013 there are two big contracts: € 28.000 for building new parts of the school and € 6.000 for quality of education. These contracts will be financed from the amount that’s available for the targets in 2011/2012. The other amount is for contracts we hope to confirm in the years 2013-2015 with our partner in India.

Your money is spent carefully, almost totally for the benefit of the children in India. We are preparing plans for a new phase of constructing of a proper and adequate schoolbuilding .
The committee of Kashi Mandir Foundation, the committee of Kashi Mandir school and the children of Kashi Mandir school thank you again!

Working visit in 2011

Published: 07-02-2012 by Rutger.

In March 2011 two committee members of our foundation, Margriet and Rutger travelled to India again for a working visit. Renewing of the personal contacts has been important, but also control, monitoring, evaluation an stimulation of the school project. The personal contacts have been heart-warming again, and a schoolparty for the students was very succesfull, beside that they worked hard on business matters.
Also good to see that already 50 infants attend school and that every student studies very seriously and disciplined.

For the years 2012/2013 two contracts have been concluded: one for the constructing of three new classrooms, an office and entrance.
And we made appointments for improvement of governance and management for future FCRA registration of the school (official approval of the Indian government to be allowed to receice money taxfree from abroad).
A second contract is about quality of education and output of the school. This contract contains 18 points of interest concerning quality, among them students computers, computer courses for the teachers, a school bicycle project and a small library. But also attention for drop-out and a parents-teachers group.
These both contracts amount to € 34000.

The planned renewals and implementation are all part of the schoolproject. In 2013 - 2015 we hope to continue this policy: good quality primary education for all children of the village and surrounding.

Pictures of the working visit will be uploaded to the website soon.

Impulsis

Published: 14-07-2010 by Rutger.

We have been able to conclude a contract with big NGO Impulsis, a cooperation of Edukans,Icco and Kerk in Actie. They pay 50% of the amount needed for the next phase of development of Kashi Mandir School, the Kashi Mandir Foundation pays the other 50%.The total contract is about an amount of € 30000.

Important items in the coming 1½ year will be the constructing of a part of the schoolbuilding( classrooms, entrance, office), an improvement of the quality of education and refresher courses and graduating of the teachers.
Impulsis wants -together with Dutch private initiatives and local development partners - to stimulate the development of good quality education for all. Cooperation and durable solutions are important points of interest. Education is - also in India - a responsibility of the government, but cannot be seen apart from local educational facilities. Supported projects are linked to the regional and local policy of education and are renewing and innovating.
Impulsis supports the UN millenniumgoals, just like we do.

Rotary Club Emmen

Published: 14-07-2010 by Rutger.

Rotary Club Emmen donated our foundation a considerable amount for the project in India in 2008. This year -2010 - a part of the benefits of the yearly golf tournament was reservated for our foundation and by this for Kashi Mandir School in Old-Khajuraho: € 5000 ! It is wonderful that this service club supports, together with us, these wonderful children in India.

Kashi Mandir Foundation suggested to use this money in the coming 1½ year for improving quality of education in the school. We think for instance of refresher courses and graduating of teachers, computers for the students, a small library, teaching materials, learning methods, coaching of former students, a parents committee etc.
In the struggle for its' survival all these matters don't have priority now in the school, but they are as important as building classrooms and collecting money for teachers wages.

We thank Rotary Club Emmen very much for their involvement and dedication.

Sanitation and construction of a new school

Published: 10-02-2010 by Rutger.

Thanks to the work of many volunteers in India and with a financial contribution of the foundation in The Netherlands, the first three new class rooms are almost finished (January 2010). We received photo's which tell the story of the constructing over the past 8 months. On the photopages you can see how much work has been done and you will get an impression of the progress of the constructing process. 50 % Of the building costs has been collected among the villagers, the other half of the needed amount has been paid by the Foundation Kashi Mandir in The Netherlands

In November 2009 the construction of a brand new toiletbuilding was started: three toilets for the girls, separated three toilets for the boys.
The toiletbuilding is meant to replace the bad smelling latrine used by about 200 children. This small sanitation project is a big step forward.
Good drinking water ( tube well in 2008) and proper toilets are a good example of improvement for the school and the village.

Fundraising project University students

Published: 28-09-2009 by Rutger.

In 2009 a new group of international economy students of Stenden University in Emmen tried to appraoch local industries and trade companies, and international companies as well, to ask their attention for Kashi Mandir. They investigated if these companies want to sponsor Kashi Mandir in order to realise school-constructing in the future.

One of our committee-members lectured these students and gave them information about the foundation, the Kashi Mandir project and about development cooperation in general. The students are coached by a teacher of the University and by one of our committee-members.

We thank the students for their commitment and wish them good luck with their work.

India project primary school

The foundation cooperated with primary School De Vlonder in Emmen in 2008. A member of our committee performed some guestlessons about Kashi Mandir to all children of the age from 9 to 12 years old. Teachers of the school teached the children about India and development cooperation.

An India-week has been organised in the first week of april with several activities: a balloon-contest, a fundraising cabaret evening and an India market.
Revenues of these actions will be donated to the foundation and will be used for school-constructing in the future.
On the june 18 the headmaster of the school deliverd a checque of € 3000 to the chairman of our foundation, money that will be used for the benefit of the children of Kashi Mandir primary school in India.
We thank children, parents and teachers of the school very much for their dedication to our project.

In 2009 school De Vlonder organised a sponsor-run for the benefit of the foundation and the schol In India. The result was another € 500 for the good cause. We thank again everybody of the school.

New World Market

Published: 07-02-2010 by Rutger.

On November 24,25 and 26 we manned again a stand on the New World Market 2011 in the Main Church of Emmen . Also this year there were many stands with information also from other organizations, nice products, good music etc.

We informed the public about our project and sold nice( most Indian handicraft) Saint-Nicolas and Christmas presents for the good target: constructing a brand new school-building in India.
Last year we earned € 300 for the foundation.

Our foundation needs the support of the public to be able to help the children in India

Water for the Kashi Mandir

Published: 16-12-2010 by Rutger.

In 2007, after two years of great lack of monsoonrains the potable water supply for the school has become a problem.

Every day it is a long walk for all children to become- after long waiting in a queue - some bad quality water. We decided to do something: we will donate money for making a tubewell and buying a waterpump.
The children of Kashi Mandir School will have there clean watersource and at the same time we have an important development project which belongs to the theme of the Full Colour Festival : 'Water'!
This water-installation has been realised (spring 2008) thanks to a generous gift of a Dutch sponsor ! We thank the people who made this possible.

Unfortunately we got the message in 2009 that the wet monsoon did not bring enough rain this year. That means that most of the tubewells in the village are dry ( also that one of the school) and it means a complete disaster for many parents of the schoolchildren because they depend for their lifehood on the production of their fields.
A secondary problem is that the finishing of the new classrooms has been delayed by this lack of water.

Full Colour Festival

Published: 26-10-2011 by Rutger.

Last August 2011 we presented ourselves again to the public on the Full Colour Festival in Emmen.

This festival is an annual cultural happening, full of colour, music, dance, nice food, information about third world development projects, activities for children, African and Asian products etc.
Admittance to the festival is free, for younger and older people there is enough to be done.
We present ourselves on this market with information to the public, a lottery, a play for young and old and fundraising for Kashi Mandir by selling Indian handicraft articles
Our presence on Full Colour in 2010 was rewarded with € 315 for the foundation. This year we earned -despite the bad weather - € 200.
